  2. What is the cost of your services?

    The cost of our service depends entirely on the size and type of the project. In order to provide you with a firm price quote, it is imperative that we see your plans and specifications. Our estimators will then analyze the plans and specifications to provide you with a firm price quote and a time frame on how long it will take for us to do the estimate.

    Factors affecting these prices include the type and complexity of the project, repetitiveness, number of alternates, and other project specific factors. Each estimate is prepared in accordance with the Standard Estimating Practices of the American Society of Professional Estimators.

  3. Is there a percentage for us to figure how much your services will cost?

    No - We review the number of plans or use the dollar value of the job to determine the cost. Once your information is received, we are then able to decipher how much time is needed for us to do the estimate and will provide you with a firm price quote.

  4. Do you just do takeoffs?

    No - It is possible to provide you solely with takeoff information, however we are also able to provide labor and material pricing as well.  We cover all 16 divisions or just the specific divisions you need. No matter which you choose it is our mission to present you with a very thorough takeoff. In addition, we perform estimates for design build from schematic or narratives as well as providing scheduling and construction litigation claim services.Estimating Capabilities

  5. How do you figure material costs when you are in Nebraska?

    Material pricing is based on supplier list prices and reference sources. Prices are based upon a pricing service with discounts applied. Large quantity/dollar items should be verified with your local vendor. The client must then confirm pricing. There are very few cost variations for materials throughout the U.S.  Of course, there are always exceptions to this.

  6. Can you just do separate divisions?

    Yes - Our estimates are personalized to your project needs. Our estimators can perform an estimate on any specific division that you need or the entire project depending on your requirements.

  8. Do you guarantee your work?
    How do I know I will receive an accurate estimate?

    We have been in business for over thirty years. We use experienced estimators and have an exceptional client repeat rate of over 80%. We are unable to provide you with a 100% guarantee or warranties on any project estimate. After the estimate leaves our office we do not have any control over the project. We can not guarantee that you will be the lowest bidder or that you will generate a profit.

  9. What estimating system do you use?

    Tempest Company has developed our own estimating system called Construction Reporting System. It is a customized system for projects that require one or more divisions. This allows us to provide you with a hardcopy print as well as an electronic spread sheet version of our estimate.  Other systems that we use include Paydirt for earthwork takeoff and Electrical Bid Manager for electrical jobs.

  10. How long does it take to get an estimate?

    The time allotted to provide our clients with an estimate depends on the job; usually it takes one to two weeks on smaller jobs and four to six weeks on larger jobs.  Each project will have a firm turnaround time to meet your needs as well as a quoted price for our services. We will get it to you promptly, therefore providing you with enough time to review the information and get quotes on major material and equipment purchases. One of the many benefits of using Tempest Company is that we do not have the distractions that an estimator at a construction company has, therefore providing our clients with our undivided attention. We pride ourselves, that in over 30 years in business we have never missed a deadline.

    Yes - It is Tempest Company’s procedure to provide clients with an estimate on a standard Excel spreadsheet.

  15. Do we have to pay you if we don’t get the job?

    Yes - We do not “invest” in outside company operations nor do we want a percent of what we “save” you, etc. We would like to remind you that Tempest Company does not get a bonus if you get the job.
